Frozen Lake Champlain and Chef's Menu at Single Pebble in Burlington, VT

Image
It was a beautiful day to check out Lake Champlain. It was tough for me, walking on the uneven and slippery snow with my hurt leg, but it was worth it to get some of these beautiful views. Its not every year that Lake Champlain freezes, because it is a massive lake. But this has been a cold winter, and the news broke recently that it was frozen all the way across. That means you could walk from Vermont across to New York. My friend, Ed, from Savannah, was here visiting so I thought this would be a good opportunity to go check out the lake. There is a big causeway, or dike, that creates an inner Mallets Bay from the outer lake. It takes about a half mile from the parking lot to make it out for views of the lake. The trail was covered in snow, as was the lake.

Exploring Church Street and the Trapp Family Kaffeehaus with Mom

It was a beautiful day on Burlington's famous Church Street. People were enjoying the late summer hot weather and getting some walking in past the shops and restaurants of the city market. There are so many little villages and beautiful towns here in Northern Vermont. Today my mom was in town, and the kids were in school, so I thought we would go and explore a bit. Even though its not the capitol, Burlington is the major hub of Vermont. This is where the biggest airport is, and it is located right on the shores of the massive Lake Champlain. The University of Vermont draws in students from all over, and holds the hospital where all three of my kids were born. Every once in a while, I will descend out of the mountains of Stowe, and go explore this beautiful city. On our way out of Stowe, Vermont, we made a stop at the Von Trapp Family Lodge. This is where the some of the Von Trapp family, made famous by the movie 'Sound of Music', immigrated from Austria. The rolling mount...

Impromptu Morning Photo Walk in Downtown Burlington: From Church Street to Lake Champlain

Image
The historic Unitarian Church at the end of Church Street, ablaze in Fall colors today. Taking a scenic photo walk through downtown Burlington, Vermont, in the fall is a perfect way to experience the city’s vibrant character, rich history, and natural beauty. I found myself in Burlington, Vermont this morning, and was inspired to grab my camera for an impromptu morning photo walk. Downtown Burlington is a history lovers delight. Once I saw the dramatic clouds in the sky, as the morning storms starting to break, I knew I couldn't miss this opportunity. Starting on Church Street Marketplace, Burlington’s iconic pedestrian street, I found a lively scene of local shops, cafes, and colorful storefronts. This area is especially picturesque now in autumn when trees lining the street are ablaze with reds, oranges, and yellows. Church Street is also famous for its unique street art, including murals by local artists that tell stories of Burlington’s cultural and artistic heritage. From cl...
