Foggy Morning in Stowe

Image
The foggy mornings are sometimes the best. The corn is tall and the barns are plentiful here in Northern Vermont. It was a foggy morning here in Stowe, Vermont in the northern part of the state. We are not too far from the Canadian border, and the chill that we felt in the air this morning reminded me of that. As I drove the kids to school I noticed a fog clinging to the hillsides and enveloping the town. I have always appreciated a good fog in my landscape photos. It add a certain mystique. So I grabbed my camera and went for a little tour of the town. Stowe is beautiful in just about every condition, but I especially like it like this. Out here in the countryside of Vermont, we have corn fields for days. Red barns dot the fields, and homes are lost into the foggy mountainsides. The famed Green Mountains run right through town, which gives us ample opportunity to hike and ski in season. Mountain biking is the usual go to during the summer and fall months. So I grabbed my bike an...

Finding Summertime Beauty around Stowe, Vermont

Image
I'm back in Stowe, Vermont with my camera in hand. This was a photo of the newly refurbished Stowe Community Church chapel, in the early morning blue light. Summer in Alaska has been pretty amazing. There was even a quick trip to Norway and Sweden this summer as well. But now its time to soak the last of summer up in the lakes and mountains of Vermont, with three of the coolest kids I know. Sometimes folks forget about all the beauty that is right in their backyard. I am determined to grab my camera and not miss any of it. This past week was spent walking around my town of Stowe, Vermont, enjoying the summertime vibes and mountainous surroundings. There were waterfalls, sunsets, blue hour shoots downtown, and wildflowers galore. The chances for photography are all around. Summer is a great time to be here. Stowe is known for its winter skiing, but summer bike riding and hiking into the Green Mountains is a can't miss. Plus a day trip to Lake Champlain is a wonderful addition....

Exploring Stowe, VT: Wiessner Woods

Image
The old Sugar Shack   The hiking action here in Stowe is really starting to impress me. The options for fun family hikes seem to abound at every turn. After taking to the Stowe Bike Path for a beautiful 7 mile ride during the kids midday nap, Heidi and I grabbed Catalina and Fisher and headed to the Wiessner Woods.     Filled with great trails, the Weissner Woods had a few surprises in store beyond the beautiful trees. The old sugar shack still stands, although it is locked up now. Catalina had maple syrup for the first time a few days ago so it was fun for her to put together that this was a place where it was made at one time. The Gnomes   The big surprise came in a small form. It seems a bunch of gnomes have made a corner of this forest their own. Catalina really enjoyed walking around the 'gnome home' and finding all the different little statues. It is true what people say about one of the great joys of being a parent is being able to see the world ...
