Back in Seattle for Spring B.C. Trips

Image
Ready for more of this $15 Mariners tix   I'm back for round 2 on the Safari Quest and year 4 for an UnCruise summer season. I'll be expedition leader aboard the 22 passengers luxury cruise yacht Safari Quest, doing weeklong trips on the British Columbia coast as well as the Inside Passage of Alaska. But first we need to unpack the boat which has been getting upgrades and maintenance over the winter at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle. Plus I get to meet the new team! Although by this time I know pretty much everyone I'll be working with and quite a few are returning from working the Quest last season. Still gives us a good reason for bonding over baseball games and mini golf hijinx. Lala, Amie, Kerri, Dirk, Emily, Denee, Anastasia, Mark, and Myself The streets lit up with Spring colors Safari Quest in action   The weather is some of the best I've experienced here in the spring time. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, as are the cher...

Sights of Downtown Seattle

Pike Place Market Fresh Seafood at Pike Place Market   A rare afternoon off sparked a quick sightseeing trip through the quirky downtown waterfront district of Seattle. I figured Pike Place Market would be a good place to start. A Starbucks sat across the road but I was told that it wasn't the first, but if I wanted to see the first it was only two blocks away. I stepped inside the market to see stalls ranging from African masks and trinkets to all kinds of flowers and of course the famous fish tossing stalls as well. What I assume were salty fishermen lined the stalls in the grundens (at least they looked like salty fishermen.) Gum Wall, Post Alley Seattle Aquarium   There were a couple of good overlooks from the market down to the waterfront so my next mission was to find a way there through all the construction. Going down through the Post Alley I came across a bizarre site which turned out to be the famous Gum Wall. People have color coated the walls with...

Wilderness Explorer: My new home

Image
So I have officially become mobile now as I enter back into the boating world. I accepted a job as an expedition leader with Un-Cruise Adventures onboard their vessel the Wilderness Explorer. It is a small, high-end cruise ship that spends the summer months plying the inside passage of Southeast Alaska. I walked around the ship and took a few pictures to give people a better understanding of what downsizing one must do to come work on board, and in what extreme close quarters you live. My top bunk with no head room the "Shoilet"  Being one of the managers on board means I have a bigger cabin and more space but it might not be what you would expect. A shoilet accompanies the room which is just big enough to sit on the toilet while taking a shower. I guess I do like to multitask. The hotel manager is my roommate so I imagine we will be on similar sleeping schedules.  The ship takes 74 passengers with around 25 crew. It is 186ft long and four stories tall. There w...
