Impromptu Morning Photo Walk in Downtown Burlington: From Church Street to Lake Champlain
The historic Unitarian Church at the end of Church Street, ablaze in Fall colors today.
Taking a scenic photo walk through downtown Burlington, Vermont, in the fall is a perfect way to experience the city’s vibrant character, rich history, and natural beauty. I found myself in Burlington, Vermont this morning, and was inspired to grab my camera for an impromptu morning photo walk. Downtown Burlington is a history lovers delight. Once I saw the dramatic clouds in the sky, as the morning storms starting to break, I knew I couldn't miss this opportunity.
Starting on Church Street Marketplace, Burlington’s iconic pedestrian street, I found a lively scene of local shops, cafes, and colorful storefronts. This area is especially picturesque now in autumn when trees lining the street are ablaze with reds, oranges, and yellows. Church Street is also famous for its unique street art, including murals by local artists that tell stories of Burlington’s cultural and artistic heritage. From classic 19th-century brick buildings to the historic Unitarian Church, the architecture along Church Street adds character and depth, making it a prime spot for capturing the essence of downtown Burlington. Even though you see a couple of cars parked on Church Street in the photos, it is mostly for pedestrians.
As I moved toward the Burlington Waterfront, I found more fantastic photo opportunities. The waterfront offers breathtaking views of Lake Champlain, especially when the lake mirrors the vibrant fall colors of the surrounding trees and distant Adirondack Mountains. It was a bit windy and blustery on the lake today, but I could see all the way across to New York. Walking along the paths at Waterfront Park, I encountered historic structures, cozy benches, and marina views, providing a beautiful contrast to the urban setting of downtown. This blend of nature, art, and history makes a Burlington photo walk a perfect autumn adventure.
This is the historic First Baptist Church, lending its vibe to the downtown Burlington area.
On my restaurant 'hit-list.' A Single Pebble is tucked away down a side street, and hidden in this unassuming looking building, but houses one of the best Chinese restaurants, for those 'in-the-know.'
A monument to soldiers of the Revolutionary War who lived in Vermont.
Looking out over Lake Champlain, all the way across to New York.
Church Street is the place to be when you visit downtown Burlington, Vermont. Most people come for the shopping and eateries, but I was here for the architecture and ambiance.
The view of Church Street looking the other direction.
This run-down building had quite a bit of street art on it.
I really like that they have kept some of the old buildings. This is the Ethan Allen Co. No. 4 building.
I've seen this mural change over the years. It is on a little side street off Church Street, that leads to a parking garage.
Church Street has always been a hip place to be. Now is no dfferent.
Amazing artwork on the side of a building. I'm not even sure how this was made, but it was huge!
All the best plays and music acts come through the historic Flynn Theatre. This is where we usually go around Christmas time to check out the Nutcracker.
Even though the colorful foliage is all gone up in the mountains where I live, it is still gorgeous in downtown Burlington. The sky was quite dramatic as well after some morning storms.
Such a cool place for an impromptu morning photo walk. Nice to get here before the crowds as well.
Down towards the end of Church Street by the Firehouse.
