Destination: Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia
Nusa Lembongan is a popular side destination for visitors to Bali. It is an island about 18km off the coast of South Bali. I had heard about the incredible scuba diving and great surfing on the island long before stepping foot into Indonesia. What I wasn't expecting were traffic stopping religious parades and underwater farming. There are almost no cars on the island and it is obvious why when you see how narrow the 'roads' are. So motorbikes are the way to go. I talked Heidi into getting one for our stay and while it was quite the adrenaline rush driving around it was much better than dealing with the Balinese traffic. One of the coolest sights on the island was the local seaweed farming economy. Local seaweed farmers wade out into the large intertidal zone where they have rectangular plots of seaweed. At low tide the plots are uncovered so the farmers fill baskets and then bring the seaweed to the shore to dry out on big tarps. I wonder how many nudibranchs are in t...
