Mom’s Vermont Visit

Image
Even though she happened to visit during the hottest week that I've had this summer in Stowe, it was a wonderful time with mom, or as the kids call her, Grandma Nancy. We went on hikes to waterfalls, explored new swimming holes, spent a stormy night out at Stave Island, checked out a movie (Hoppers) on the green up at the mountain, rode the Gondola up Mt Mansfield for a fancy lunch at the Cliff House, went indoor rock climbing with the kids, and had some lovely morning strolls. It was pretty nonstop, but we really got to do a lot, and really experience the beauty of summer in Vermont. I hope we get to all be together soon. Here are a few pictures to remember the visit.... A hidden cabin along the Mill Creek Trail to Bingham Falls Mill Creek Trail Lunch at the Cliff House. This is way up near the top of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak. To get here you can take a ride in the gondola. We could see all the way to New Hampshire on this beautiful day! Back down at the botto...

Hike to Moss Glen Falls, Springtime.

Image
Moss Glen Falls, as seen from the overlook. There is a pretty steep section of the hike at the end here to get to this lookout, but it is worth it. This is one of the most dramatic waterfalls in Vermont. Moss Glen Falls is considered to be one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Vermont. A short hike through beaver countryside, on a well maintained boardwalk, takes you to a scenic overlook of the 125 foot falls. It is pretty easily accessible, however there is a steep section at the very end to get up to the overlook. Just walking through the beaver habitat is reason enough to come here. The beaver home is visible in one of the ponds they have created by damming up the stream. Ducks play in the newly created ponds, and snakes sneak out from under the boardwalk. Springtime is here, which means all the animals are coming out of the winter slumber. It is still a little cold to play in the clear water, but that will come with summer. I really wanted to fly my drone here, but it is ...

Hike to Bingham Falls and Brookdale Covered Bridge

Image
There are few points like this, where you can peak over the edge and get a view down into the slot canyon and waterworks below. Just out of Stowe town, on the road up into the mountains, streams tumble down through the forest, bringing countless waterfalls to the landscape. All you need to find them is a little time, and an adventurous spirit. I took off to find one of these today, called Bingham Falls. It is a picturesque mountain stream, that enters a rocky slot canyon, before falling into a clear pool, perfect for swimming on a hot summer day. You can access this waterfall from either side of the river, however the shortest route is directly off an easy parking lot off the side of Route 108. The roundtrip there and back is less than a mile, however there are some steep, slippery sections. People have gotten into trouble here before, but mostly those playing around the edges of the cliffs, or trying to jump into the river itself. I was just here for photos and a hike today, so ...

Last Day of the Ski Season here at Stowe

Image
The view of Mt Mansfield and Smugglers Notch in Northern Vermont from the high speed quad lift at Stowe Mountain Resort on the last day of the ski season, 2026. What a season it has been, here at the best ski and snowboard destination on the East Coast. If you have ever heard the term "ski the East", this is where they are talking about. Stowe, Vermont has had an epic winter. The snow started to fall heavy in November, and stuck around pretty much straight through April. The entire resort was open pretty much the entire winter. This meant that there was absolutely incredible snowboarding off the trails, through the trees. I did some exploring this year, and felt like every day I was finding new, fun, challenging places to snowboard. I got some days in with friends, and managed to walk away, fully recovered, from one harrowing crash into a tree. At the bottom is a snapshot into my season, thanks to my EPIC app, tracking all of my days and lifts and vertical distance. I got u...
