I missed Alaska during the 2020 summer season. I thought about how the glaciers were changing, how the whales had almost no boat noise, and how the bears didn't smell the weird smells that accompany humans along their trails. I was pretty excited to head back to Alaska this May. I worked as Expedition Leader onboard the Safari Quest for 3 weeks and the Safari Explorer for 2 weeks. The trips were magical, the wildlife seemed like it had enjoyed a year off, and the weather just got nicer and nicer. I met new crew and expanded on relationships with old friends. The crew was just as excited to get out and see southeast Alaska as the guests were...which is saying a lot because the guests were very excited.
Here are a few pictures and memories from my first rotation back to Alaska.
