Birding in My Backyard

Japanese White Eye
Many photographers travel the globe looking for great picture opportunities. While traveling can provide new sights, experiences, and adventures, I try not to forget about how amazing my own back yard can be.

Even though there are not many noticeable differences between the seasons out here in Hawaii, the trees seem to know just when Spring rolls in. Mangoes start showing up in the markets, baby avacado are filling the trees, and the mountain apples are in full bloom.
On a rainy morning I found a spot high up next to the mountain apple tree. I could hear the birds chattering away within the canopy. Inside the outer limbs tropical birds like Japanese white eyes and red whiskered bulbuls hungrily pecked away at the ripe fruit. The birds were surrounded by green leaves and pink blooms which created a colorful backdrop.
