Girls Softball in Kenya

We recently introduced softball to Matiku Secondary School which is run by a long time friend of ours here in Kenya. It is way out in the bush but we enjoy putting the Land Rover to the test. This trip also coincided with the school's Parents Day. All of the parents of students walk from miles around to come hear how good the school is doing and to watch performances from the students. High profile guest attended including the local government official, visiting principles, religious leaders, and lots of other guest of honor who all makes speeches. We were also giving guest of honor status which meant a seat out of the sun. The poems, skits, and dances were very fun to watch but the waiting and the speeches was a bit tedious.
Luckily the softball was a huge success. For some reason the girls are so much quicker and easier to teach. The immediately picked it up and started hitting, running the bases, and throwing the ball very well. They were very excited to know that they were the first girls softball team in Kenya. Now they want some competition so we will have to pack some more softball stuff next year!
